why i love capturing catholic weddings

Being Catholic is one of my favorite things about myself.

I know that might sound like a funny thing to say, but it's true. I have always been incredibly grateful that I was raised in the Catholic Church. My faith has grown through some of the most beautiful moments of my life, but it has also grown through the hardest ones. Looking back, I can see that God was working in every season, even when I couldn't understand why. He has shown me time and time again that everything happens for a reason.

As a Catholic photographer, I understand what is happening beyond what everyone else sees.

I understand that this is not just a ceremony. It is the Sacrament of Holy Matrimony. It is two people making a covenant with one another before God that will last the rest of their lives.

When a bride walks down the aisle, I know she is walking toward her vocation.

When the couple exchanges vows, I know they are making promises that are meant to be lived every day, not just spoken once.

When they kneel together after receiving the Eucharist for the first time as husband and wife, I know I am witnessing one of the most meaningful moments of their entire wedding day.

That first Eucharist together always gets me.

There is something so powerful about watching a newly married couple receive Jesus side by side for the first time. It is the first thing they do together after becoming husband and wife. Before the reception, before the dancing, before celebrating with everyone they love, they choose Christ. That says everything about the kind of marriage they are beginning.

As a Catholic, I understand why those moments matter.

I'm not just documenting beautiful details or happy moments. I'm preserving the beginning of a sacramental marriage. Years from now, I hope my couples can look back at their photographs and remember not only how joyful their wedding day was, but how present God was in every part of it.

It is such an honor to witness those moments, and even more of an honor to preserve them.
