The House of Refuge at Gilbert’s Bar is one of the most recognizable locations in Stuart and on the Treasure Coast. For family photography, I especially love the variety we can create in a relatively small area.
We can photograph along the beach, incorporate the rocky shoreline, use the greenery surrounding the property, and capture the classic Florida coastal landscape throughout your session.
The natural setting also works beautifully for families who want photos that feel relaxed rather than overly formal. I’ll guide you through the entire session, but I also leave room for the little in-between moments that often become some of my favorite photographs.
What to Wear for Family Photos in Stuart, Florida
For beach family photos, I recommend choosing outfits that coordinate rather than perfectly match. Neutral tones, soft blues, creams, whites, light pastels, and subtle patterns photograph beautifully against the natural colors of the beach.
Flowy dresses and textured fabrics can also add movement and dimension to your photos, especially along the water.
When planning everyone’s outfits, start with one person’s outfit and build the rest of the family’s looks around it. This usually creates a much more natural and elevated result than putting everyone in identical colors.

I recommend booking holiday family photos early, especially if you plan to use your images for Christmas cards or holiday gifts.
November sessions give you time to receive your finished gallery and order cards, prints, and gifts before the holidays. Mini sessions also have limited availability because sessions are scheduled back-to-back around the best natural light of the day.
