Catholic Wedding Photographer in New England | Why Understanding the Mass Matters
If you're planning a Catholic wedding in New England, one thing I encourage you to consider when choosing your photographer is whether they understand the Catholic Mass.
As a Catholic myself and a wedding photographer with roots in Connecticut, photographing Catholic weddings is something I especially love. There's so much meaning behind the traditions, and I think it's important that your photographer understands what they're documenting.
Why Hire a Photographer Who Understands Catholic Weddings?
A Catholic wedding is more than just a ceremony. It's the celebration of a sacrament, and whether you're having a full Nuptial Mass or a Catholic wedding ceremony outside of Mass, there are important moments throughout the liturgy. Having a photographer who understands the order of the ceremony makes a difference. From the processional and readings to the exchange of consent, blessing of the rings, and Nuptial Blessing, I want to be prepared for each moment without interrupting the celebration. And if you're having a full Mass, understanding when the Liturgy of the Eucharist begins is especially important.
Respecting the Church and Its Traditions
One thing I always recommend to my couples is asking their parish about photography restrictions ahead of time. Some Catholic churches have very specific rules about where photographers can stand, whether flash is permitted, and how much movement is allowed during the ceremony. As a Catholic photographer, I understand the importance of being respectful of the liturgy and the sacred space. The goal is to document your wedding beautifully without becoming a distraction.
Planning a Catholic Wedding in Connecticut or Rhode Island?
New England has so many beautiful Catholic churches, and I especially love the tradition of exchanging vows in a church before celebrating at a separate reception venue. But this also means your wedding timeline needs to account for travel between locations. For example, if you're getting married in a Catholic church in Newport, Rhode Island, before celebrating at a coastal reception venue, we'll want to leave enough time for family portraits, travel, and photographs of the two of you. The same applies to weddings throughout Connecticut, whether you're planning a reception along the shoreline or farther inland.
A Little About Me
I'm Daniella, the photographer behind Daniella Dyan Photography! I grew up in Guilford, Connecticut, and photograph weddings throughout Connecticut, Rhode Island, and the rest of New England. My approach is rooted in natural colors, candid moments, and documenting your day as it actually unfolds. While I photograph weddings of all kinds, Catholic weddings have a special place in my heart because of my own faith.
